I figured I'd like the new Modest Mouse maybe just enough to make it worth the purchase but never expected it to be as good as it is. My expectations were appropriate considering my limited exposure. I liked their last one (Good News...) and only heard anything further back a couple times. "We Were Dead..." is really good. It's easily my favorite release so far this year although it's been pretty dead in terms of new releases that interest me. This has been one of those releases for me that has a different favorite as each week of listening passes. Eventually you end up with more than half the tracks being non-skippers. It's actually more like 2/3 or better being real winners. What's exciting now is that I'm motivated to go backwards through their catalog and check out their older stuff and give it more of a listen now that I'm a fan. I want more!
Not to hog your comments here... but a few other songs that I am loving by MM include: Interstate 8 (album: Building Nothing Out of Something)and Here It Comes (album: Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks). Unfortunately, I bought these through iTunes (a great way to listen to first 30 secs of any song), so in order for me to burn them (for back-up purposes only) I have to use back-up software that will pull it from the hardware (Total Recorder is great). If you find others you like, let me know. Told you I was crazy for this band. :-) Late!
